Proposal code: CONSUL-2019-08-1

The Idea behind this proposal is to build a state of the art free to use facility on top of a existing BMX track next to the Sandy Brae Community Centre.

The Idea behind this proposal is to build a state of the art free to use facility on top of a existing BMX track next to the Sandy Brae Community Centre.

On the current site there is a Multi Use sports court and also a football pitch the pump track would add to these facilities and provide the local community with a state of the art new facility in the heart of the community.

These pump tracks are now a key part of cycling strategy around Scotland and top riders venture to these tracks to ride them as well as the general public and members of the biking community.

The current BMX track on site was built in the early 80s and has hardly been upgraded at all during this period and is currently is a state of disrepair as the track is already used for cycling we would not need to ask for a change of use in terms of planning.

We have set up a Facebook Support Page ...Kennoway Pump Track currently with 282 members and we have also visited the local primary school to conduct consultation and to allow the kids to vote on if they feel this would be a good idea and benefit the local community with over 380 pupils voting in favour of the project.

We now have plans in place to consult the youth age groups at High School and also conduct more consultation in the local community.

These pump tracks are great for building cycling skills and also a fun way to keep healthy and can also be used to run events to gather more interest in the facility.

They can also be used by in line skaters and scooters.

We would like this to encompass floodlights that can be linked to the local street lighting this would enable to track to be used during the long winter months.

Research from other similar projects show a varied impact on the community from the more obvious health and Mental Health benefits to a reduction in the crime rate and false call outs to the emergency services.

Estimated cost for this facility are in the region of £130,000

Do you think upgrading the existing BMX track in Kennoway to a free to use state of the art pump track is a good idea ?

Great for the community and for Fife, I know my daughter would love to use something like this. (Original comment by Kelzblyth)
